TAMER SHALABI's profile

The Life of a Palestinian American

-For my first piece, I scanned a picture of my license plate and used photoshop to put an olive tree in the background. This took the least amount of time but I enjoy its simplicity in depicting an actual form of registration in America that contains my name, Tamer, which means a blessed man in Arabic.
-The second piece was made using photoshop. I used pictures I took in Palestine and an old image of my uncle and aunt to depict the 90's decade in Palestine.
-The third piece was made using a linoleum print. This piece took me the longest because I tried my best to perfect each print. In Arabic, I wrote "pure like an olive" and depicted an olive tree to show the importance of purity and humility in my culture.
-For the fourth image, I used a picture of a building I took in Jerusalem and layer masked a spray paint design I made on water. I put the dinosaur to depict the terrors Palestinians have faced over the past several decades and I made the spray paint look like blood to depict the blood my ancestors have shed fighting for freedom and recognition.
